
Skills in Demand (SID) Visa - Subclass 482
As of December 7, 2024, the Australian Government replaced the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa with the Skills in Demand (SID) visa under subclass 482.
Key Features of the Skills in Demand (SID) Visa:
Visa Streams:
- Specialist Skills Stream: For highly skilled professionals in select ANZSCO major groups. Minimum salary threshold: AUD 135,000.
- Core Skills Stream: Covers occupations listed on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL). Minimum salary threshold: AUD 73,150.
- Labour Agreement Stream: For workers under an employer with a Labour Agreement.
Work Experience Requirement:
Applicants must have at least one year of relevant full-time work experience (or equivalent) within the last five years.
English Language Proficiency:
Minimum IELTS score of 5.0 overall, with 5.0 in each component, unless exempt.
Pathway to Permanent Residency:
SID visa holders may apply for permanent residency via the Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) after two years of full-time work with their sponsoring employer.
Flexibility in Employment:
Visa holders can change employers and have up to 180 days to find a new sponsor.
Visa Duration:
The SID visa can be granted for up to four years.
These changes provide greater flexibility for employers and skilled workers, ensuring that Australia's labor market needs are met.
